Due to the continuous earthquakes occurring in the eastern regions of Japan since Mar. 11, 2011, the power companies in Japan have encouraged everyone to cooperate by conserving as much energy as possible as it is feared there will not be enough power supply. Based on the current situation, we have decided to shut down the game servers temporarily, and therefore to suspend services of FINAL FANTASY XIV, FINAL FANTASY XI, and PlayOnline temporarily.
The services will be temporarily suspended for at least a week starting on Mar. 13, 2011 3:00 (PDT). We will provide an update regarding the reinstatement of the service as additional information becomes available. In connection with the temporary suspension of services, players will not be billed for any PlayOnline service throughout the April billing cycle. Additional information regarding this matter will also be posted as it becomes available.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and thank you for your understanding of this unusual situations.
[Date & Time] A week starting from Mar. 13, 2011 3:00 (PDT)
[Affected Service] - FINAL FANTASY XIV - FINAL FANTASY XI - PlayOnline
* Additionally, the following services are currently unavailable:
- Friend List Plus - FINAL FANTASY XI Linkshell Community Beta Version - PlayOnline Friend List Application - Community Site Link Registration: Owner Menu
* Please be advised that we will continue to operate the official websites, FINAL FANTASY XIV Lodestone, forums, and the SQUARE ENIX Support Center to be able provide our customers with updates on the current situation. ???? ???? [Reference] An excerpt from the Caution posted on TOKYO ELECTRIC POWER COMPANY (TEPCO)’s home page:
A big earthquake occurred in the northern part of Japan at 2:46PM of March 11th 2011. Because TEPCO's facilities have been seriously damaged, power shortage may occur. TEPCO appreciates customers' cooperation in reducing electricity usage by avoiding using unnecessary lighting and electrical equipment. We are taking all measures to restore power, however, we expect extremely challenging situation in power supply for a while. We kindly ask our customers to cooperate with us in reducing usage of power.

| All we can do is try to enjoy some time away from the game and send our wishes to Japan. It makes perfect sense that they are doing this. hopefully it clears up in the next few months | |

Thanks. Is it actually animated on your screen? It was actually working on my side when I uploaded it but to me it seems to have froze now.

| FUKUSHIMA: Reactors 5 & 6 Have Been Shut Down; Pressure Under Control At 3; Progress At 1, 2 & 4 - Quote :
- A series of hopeful news announced by the Nuclear Industrial & Safety Agency (via VOA's Steve Herman).
Reactors 5 & 6 reached cold shutdown today. Pressure is under control at reactor 3, and there is no need for more radioactive venting at the moment. They are attaching a power line to reactor 4, and the fuel rods are being cooled by external water spray. Seawater is being pumped into reactors 1 and 2.
Deputy chief cabinet secretary Tetsuro Fukuyama said reactors 1-4 are "showing signs of improvement." He also said he would feed his kids spinach and water from the area -- and that they don't drink milk anyway, according to VOA.
As a show of faith, Prime Minister Kan will visit within 20 kilometers of the plant tomorrow, according to Kyoto.

| Quote: ○Implementation plan of rolling blackouts from Tuesday, March 22nd to Sunday, 27th,
Please refer to the exhibit 2 for detailed plan.
●The actual blackout period for each group is planned to be maximum about3 hours during the relevant scheduled time period. ●Starting and ending time of blackout periods will slightly differ day by day. ●Depending on the supply-demand balance hereafter, planned blackouts may not be carried out. Moreover, in case the electricity supply-demand balance becomes tighter than expected, we will reconsider the rolling blackout plan and inform you accordingly before we implement the revised plan. ●A blackout may occur in the adjacent areas where the planned blackouts are carried out.
[Others] ●In order to prevent fires, please make sure to switch off electric appliances such as hair driers when you leaving home. ●Please carefully pay attention to the traffic at the crossings in case the traffic lights are suddenly turned off.
[Improvement in implementing planned blackouts] ●In principle, we will implement the planned blackouts based on the current manner. However, we do realize that there is room for improvement. Therefore, we will continue to consider and improve implementation manners from the customers' point of view.

FTFY Also that is the electric company over there yes, but, you could be stating that a bit early since SE did announce they would only "re-evaluate" the situation on the 22nd. Until then, there is no telling what will happen. SE may not have the black-outs by then and that could just be a statement to the general public similar to the one I posted a few days back. Though more than likely SE will just announce on the 22nd that it is being extended to the 27th. xD

| I was reading that earlier today also Ruler. Tokyo and even as far east as Gifu are experiencing rolling blackouts. So I wouldn't be surprised if servers were suspended for a little longer. | |

Yah and Dea posted it first, I just fixed her quoting. What I was saying though is that since it's not an official announcement from SE itself, you can't go just on it. Sure it's the company that controls SE's power but it would best to wait for word from SE. Which again, they will most likely say "Extended till 27th or w/e".

| straight from SE so you cant bitch about it this time: http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/polnews/news20551.shtmlMar. 22, 2011 04:30 [PDT] From: PlayOnline Restoration of Game Services (Mar. 22) As part of power conservation measures enacted following the Tohoku earthquake, our game servers were shut down on Mar. 13, 2011 3:00 (PDT) and services for FINAL FANTASY XIV, FINAL FANTASY XI, and PlayOnline (hereafter referred to as "these services") were temporarily suspended. We have determined a date for the restoration of these services, and would like to share this information with you. Operating the servers for these services makes up 11.6% of the total power consumed by our Tokyo office (based on February 2011 records). We have shut down our air conditioning system (8.8%) and enacted other power conservation measures, such as reducing lighting in our offices, to achieve over 10% in energy usage reductions. With these energy saving measures in place, we will be able to bring our servers back online and restore service to FINAL FANTASY XIV, FINAL FANTASY XI, and PlayOnline on Mar. 25, 2011 4:00 (PDT). All other services, such as those offered on the PlayOnline website, that were temporarily suspended will also be restored at the same time. Please be aware, however, that we may once again be required to suspend services in the event that the power situation worsens. We offer our sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused by the temporary suspension of these services, and thank you for your understanding. As noted in our original notice regarding the suspension of these services, customers will not be charged any monthly fees for FINAL FANTASY XI throughout the April billing cycle. We at the Square Enix group are trying to act in a proactive manner in order to provide support towards the relief and restoration efforts in the face of this unprecedented disaster while providing reliable service to our customers, and we thank you for your understanding and support. | |

| First of all, I wasn't bitching about your last post. I was simply pointing out the possibility of it being flawed since it wasn't from SE. But, if that's what you call bitching then so be it.
Since this one is from SE, it is a hell of a lot more believable. With SE stating it is the 25th, this proves the other one was flawed for the sake of FFXI and XIV.
